Ralph J. Hurley, age 80, passed away on December 24, 2023, going home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ralph was born in Dayton, Ohio. Then as a child, he lived in several places out west before moving to Newton Falls, Ohio, where he graduated from high school in 1961. He attended Grove City College and The University of Akron, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree.
After working briefly at IBM in New York State, Ralph returned to Akron, Ohio, where he worked at Goodyear Aerospace Corporation as an electrical design engineer in both the defense systems and aircraft braking divisions. During his 43+ years at the company it became Loral, then Aircraft Braking Systems, and then Meggitt Corporation.
Ralph and his wife took on a very different challenge when they bought a small farm near Alliance. With their 4 children, they learned to raise sheep, bale hay, and cut wood.
Ralph also enjoyed “work day” sessions with his friends in the Northeastern Ohio Forestry Association, and many years of fellowship with friends at The Chapel in Marlboro.
Ralph is survived by his wife Joanna (married 49 years), and his children: Audrey Hurley, Ellisa Allen (husband John Allen), Nathaniel Hurley (wife Salinee Hurley), and Abigail Crison, and his 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Hurley, mother, Katharine Hurley Apger, and brother, Roger L. Hurley.
A memorial service will be held January 26th at 11:00am at the Chapel in Marlboro (8700 Edison St. NE, Louisville, OH 44641).
