Raymond Duro, age 83, of Alliance, went home to our Lord and Savior, this day, Monday, January 21, 2008 after a short illness. As time grew near for the angels of care, the Lord showed him the way. He was surrounded by great love, tears and rejoicing from his daughters, ex-wife, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was born December 29, 1924 in New Kensington, PA to parents, Eric and Florence (Robinson) Duro. Like many before them, his parents made the voyage to America from Elkistan Devonshere, Notingham England to raise 6 of their 7 children.
He served our country in World War II as a sergeant in the M.P.'s for the Army Air Corp, stationed in England.
After the war, he came to Alliance in 1945 to join his family. Settling down he helped teach drums for a Drum and Bugle Corp. He married in 1948 and started his family.
He retired from Morgan Engineering after 33 years and after his retirement he volunteered much of his time to the Alliance Police Reserves.
He was a very honorable man who dedicated himself to his family. Having little use of material things - giving was just his way. He always knew what was important. He cherished his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his heart they were his gold.
