Raymond Etson Carver, age 76 of Beloit, died at his home at 6:45 p.m. March 1, 2006. He was born July 21, 1929 in Alliance, Ohio to William and Estella (Jeffress) Carver and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Carver graduated in 1948 from Deerfield High School and worked as a Supervisor in the B and E Department of American Steel Foundries, from where he retired in 1987, after 30 years of service.
He was a member of Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Homeworth Lions Club, George D. Worth American Legion, and associate member of the Alliance Area Retired Teachers Association. Mr. Carver served during the Korean War from 1948-1951, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries received in Korea.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Freshley Carver, with whom he celebrated his 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2005; one son, Gregory R. (Phyllis) Carver, of Homeworth, daughters, Cynthia (James) Swearingen of Carrollton, and Diane Carver of Beloit; grandchildren, Carrie, Megan and Jessica Carver of Homeworth; Jimmy and Bryan Swearingen of Carrollton; great-grandchildren, Reece and Kennedy; brother, Willard (Nadine) Carver of Alliance, sisters, Darlene (Frank) Pettigrew of Edinburg, and Jo Ann Stumphf of Edinburg, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Merle and Donald (Hazel) Carver, infant siblings, William and Marjorie Carver and brother-in-law Philip Stumphf.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Middle Sandy Presybterian Church with Pastor Tom Sawyer officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at North Georgetown Cemetery.
