Dr. Raymond G. Taylor, age 87, of Bay Village, Ohio formerly of Alliance, Ohio died at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2008 at St. John West Shore Hospital in Westlake, Ohio.
He was born December 30, 1920 in Alliance to Raymond G. Taylor Sr. and Berdine C. (Vesseriat) Taylor.
Dr. Taylor was a 1938 graduate of Alliance High School. He also graduated from Western Reserve University and was inducted into the Western Reserve Football Hall of Fame. Dr. Taylor was a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy during WW II and served on the LST 357. One of his missions included Omaha Beach on "D" Day. After the war, he taught for one year at Alliance Schools where he met his wife, Kathryn (Taylor) Taylor, whom he married October 6, 1951.
He attended medical school in Des Moines, Iowa where he received his doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. He served his internship at Bay View Hospital in Bay Village. Dr. Taylor practiced family medicine and proctology in his home office for fifty years.
He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Avon Lake, Ohio. Dr. Taylor was philanthropic with donations to his church, the Humane Society, Catholic Charities, Mount Union College and Case Western. He was nominated to St. Luke's Medical Society for his contributions, and he was instrumental in the formation of St. John West Shore Hospital.
Survivors include one son Dr. Timothy N. Taylor and his wife Mary of Westlake, and one daughter Jane M. Taylor-Kettren and her husband, James Kettren of Bay Village. Dr. Taylor also has four grandchildren; Bethany Holick, her husband Eric, Kelsey, Mackenzie and Darby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Kathryn, who died February 3, 1999; one sister Mary Ann Taylor and step-father Cornelius C. Cope.
Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Jenkins Funeral Chapel 2914 Dover Center Road, Westlake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 410 Lear Road in Avon Lake.
On Friday, October 31, 2008 visitation will be held 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave, Alliance, with interment to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
