Rev. Glenn A. Waggamon, age 80, of Sebring died at 3:50 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born July 16, 1928 in Easton, Ohio to Perry D. and Verna (Hatfield) Waggamon and was a resident of the vicinity since 1970.
Glenn was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a graduate of Otterbein College in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in English and a Master of Divinity Degree from United Theological Seminary.
Glenn received his license to preach from the East Ohio Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, September 6, 1951 in session at Camp Wanake, in Beach City, Ohio and was ordained as Elder by the East Ohio Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church June 21, 1956 in session held at Linwood Park in Vermilion Ohio.
From June 1956 to July 1 , 1993 he served as an active full time Minister in the East Ohio Conference.
He served with the Christian Education and Youth Ministries at Cleveland Church of the Redeemer and the Barberton Moore Memorial churches, a short term of Mission Service as Pastor of the Beverly Center Church and Chaplain of the Red Bird Missionary School in Beverly KY. From Jan 1, 1977 to June 30, 1993 he was an Associate Director of the East Ohio Conference Council of Ministries with major responsibility of directing the Camping Ministry of the Conference. Following his retirement he served two years as the Pastor of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Waynesburg, Ohio. Beginning March 1, 1999 he began serving as a part time Minister of Visitation at the First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance. Each summer from 1956-1976 he was involved as a volunteer leader in the Elementary Camping Program at Camp Wanake, in Beach City, Ohio.
He was a past member of the Washington Ruritan Club where he served as Chaplain for a number of years, Camp Wanake Site Advisory Committee, American Camping Association, Certified Camp Director, member of the Ohio Section Boards of which he served as treasurer for two years and a Standards Visitor.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Edna Mae "Polly" Pollock Waggamon whom he married May 25, 1942; children Sybil (Peter) Baker of Columbus, Jill (Joe) Petryczkiewycz of Wauwatosa, WI, Philip (Michelle) Waggamon of Quincy, OH and Dennis (Nancy) Waggamon of Massillon; seven grandchildren; sister Marie (Rev. David) Schneider of Cincinnatti; brothers Ervin A. (Ruth) Waggamon of Doylestown and Delbert (Joyce) Waggamon of Delaware, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Bennett Chapel, Copeland Oaks 800 S. 15th St. Sebring, Ohio 44672. Family will receive friends after the service.
