Rev. Ronald Lee Grosh, age 95, formerly of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 25, 2017 in Lakeland, Florida after a very brief illness.
Lee was born in Akron, OH to Walter and Elizabeth Fisk Freeman Barker Grosh on July 24, 1922. Lee was raised in a Christian home and at an early age acknowledged Jesus as his Lord and Savior and from then on, he walked in the service of God. Even during basic training and from the beginning of his marriage, God remained foremost in his life.
Lee joined the Army Air Corp and trained to be a fighter pilot. He never lost his love of flying and eventually joined the local flying club in the Alliance area. His wife, Ava, joined him in Victoria, Texas to pin his wings on him and then marry him in 1943. They spent 66 years together before Ava succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's. Lee Grosh retired from the FAA after working in the control tower of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. He and Ava then moved to Alliance, Ohio to become the pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Homeworth, meeting in the little schoolhouse on Union Ave. and then building the current facility, which is just a little north of the schoolhouse. They traveled extensively to Israel, Italy, Greece, Africa and Mexico as well as all the P47 fighter pilot reunions held across America, making friends along the way. After Ava's death, Lee continued to stay active with friends and his church. He was a kind and generous man and loved being social. After a brief illness in 2013, he and his daughter moved to Florida to be close to his granddaughters and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Ronald M. (Ellyn) Grosh of Raleigh, North Carolina and daughter, Barbara L. Grosh of Lakeland, Florida; brother, Henry A. Grosh of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters, Jennifer (Joaquin) Grosh Perez of Lakeland, Florida and Jessica (Jeffrey) Grosh Giambrone of St Augustine, Florida; six great-grandchildren, Isabella, Fernando, Elana and Clara Perez and Jasper and Jex Giambrone.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ava May Kennedy Grosh; parents; sisters, Mary Ruth Barker Haynes, Lois Barker Fulton, and Charlotte Barker Miller; and daughter-in-law, Joanna Ronk Grosh.
