Richard Byron Hilker, age 91, of Atwater, died at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Hudson Elms Nursing Home in Hudson, Ohio.
He was born, July 19, 1918, in Atwater, Ohio, to John F. and Sarah (Daniels) Hilker and was a life time area resident.
A 1936 graduate of Atwater High School, Richard was a member of the Atwater Congregational Church. A welder by trade, he was employed at Davey Compressor for 19 years and Atwater Township in maintenance for 18 years, retiring at the age of 80. He volunteered for the Atwater Fire Department for 28 years. He was an avid deer hunter, and liked camping, and especially enjoyed his cabin in Pennsylvania.
Richard was a World War II Navy Veteran.
Survivors include his children, Timothy Hilker of Atwater, Samuel (Donna) Hilker of Indiana, Susan Henderson of Tennessee, John (Vickie) Hilker of Texas, Mary Ellen (Albert) Lieder of Hudson, and Carolyn (Richard) Belvin of Ravenna; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Olive Mae (Brock) Hilker, whom he married September 1, 1940 and who died May, 2008; son Daniel Hilker; and nine brothers and sisters.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Kruse officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Interment will be at Atwater Cemetery.
