Richard Joseph "Dick" Common, age 61 of Alliance, died Wednesday September 14, 2005 in Gogama, Ontario Canada.
He was born January 21, 1944 in Alliance, Ohio to James V. and Elizabeth (Ierovante) Common and was a lifelong resident.
Dick graduated from Marlington High School in 1962 was a graduate of the Akron Barber College. He previously served in the National Guard.
He worked as a Barber at the College Plaza, Stancato's, and Franko's Barber Shops. He was also employed by General Motors and was a former owner of a Distributorship with Melch's Food Products and later was employed by VanKampen Foods.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Alliance BPOE #467, Alliance VFW Post # 1036 and the Massillon Eagles Aeerie # 190.
Dick enjoyed coaching baseball, women's softball, and Little Warriors Tag Football. He enjoyed bowling, camping, and fishing in Michigan and Canada. He was also an avid Mount Union football fan.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Wright Common of Alliance, whom he married July 17, 1971; two daughters, Jennifer Elizabeth Common of Bloomfield NJ., Kathryn Anne Common and her partner Elisabeth Douglass of Boston MA, and one brother, Mark A. (Marcella) Common of Louisville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and died with his son, Rev. James Christian Common and his brother Michael P. Common. He was followed in death by his brother, Frank C. Common.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Gordon Thomas and The Rt. Rev. Bruce D. Wright, Richard's brother-in-law of Tampa, Florida, Friends may also call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. An Elks Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
