Richard (Dick) A. Duro

Richard (Dick) A. Duro, age 91, of Alliance, passed away at 6:21 a.m., Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born February 24, 1927, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to Eric and Florence (Robinson) Duro.
A 1949 graduate of Mount Union College, Dick was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Navy.
He was employed by Babcock Wilcox co. as an Accountant and Financial Controller for 37 years and an active member of the International Management Accountants.
A member of First Christian Church for 75 years, Dick was a Deacon, Elder, Chairman of Board, Trustee and sang in the church choir for 70 years.
He was involved in many local organizations including the Alliance FCC Food Pantry for over 20 years, a member of the Mental Health Assoc. of Stark County for 20 years where he served as a Board Member, Treasurer, President and the Stark County Representative, a member of American Legion Post 166 for 73 years, a forming member of the Alliance Habitat for Humanity Board and a Gideon member for 15 years.
Dick was a Kiwanis International member for 26 years and a longtime member of the Alliance Kiwanis Club where he was a past President. He received the Hixon Award in 1999 and 2012 for his great accomplishments and inspiring work.
He was a 2013 recipient of the Mayor's Citizen of the Year Award.
Survivors include his children, David A. Duro, Cherene K. (David) Gill and Diane L. (Tim) Harlan, all of Alliance and Kevin M. (Becky) Duro of North Canton; daughter-in-law, Charlene Duro; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bea R. Duro of 68 years, who passed away February 26, 2018 and whom he married June 11, 1949; and a son, Rich Duro.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at First Christian Church. Friends may call from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park at a later date.
