Richard L. "Dick" Elliott, age 78, of Alliance, passed away at 6:50 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born March 31, 1938, in Alliance, Ohio to Fred Garfield and Mildred (Biery) Elliott.
Richard was a 1955 graduate of Alliance High School. He was formerly employed by Armour & Company-Abrasives Division, WSOM in Salem, and was the general manager for WDPN and Q92 for over 36 years.
An inductee of the Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Dick formed Elliott Media Communications Ltd., specializing in video and media production, after leaving radio.
A veteran of the United States Army Reserves, Dick served as the public relations and fund raising consultant to Alliance Family YMCA and the Greater Alliance Foundation. He was past President and Director of Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, Executive Board Member and Treasurer of the Greater Alliance Development Corporation, past president and former board member of Alliance YMCA, Alliance Area United Way, the Carnation City Festival, and Alliance Area Youth Center, President of Questors.
He was a member of the Copeland Oaks Board of Directors, and he received the Alliance Mayor's "Citizen of the Year" award. Dick was a member of Alliance Rotary Club for 31 years, and Paul Harris Fellow recipient.
Dick enjoyed photography, video production, and computer graphics, community volunteering, travelling (especially overseas), and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Chris (Diane) Drabic of Mantua, and Jeff (Tammy) Drabic of Ravenna; three grandchildren, Faith, Austin, and Caitlyn; sisters, Beverly (Charles) Henderson of Salem, and Linda Sharritts of Miamisburg; three nieces; three nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; and four great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet Carol Elliott, whom he married October 1988, and who died May 20, 2016; and brother in law, Jerry Sharritts.
Per Dick's request, a private celebration of life service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick's honor to the charity of the donor's choice.
