Richard J. "Dick" Long, age 85, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord at 8:25 p.m. Aug. 13, 2006 at Roselawn Terrace.
He was born March 26, 1921 in Salem, Ohio to Frances Earl and Marie (Judge) Long and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Long graduated from Alliance High School, received his Bachelor's in Education from Mount Union College and received his Master's Degree in Education from Kent State University.
He was a former teacher at Rockhill and Riley Elementary Schools, and retired after serving as the Principal at Riverside, Freedom and Liberty Schools.
Mr. Long was a member of the Alliance Evangelical Friends Church, Salvation Army, where he served as a board member, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during W.W.II, and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Donna J. (Worley) Long, whom he married Aug. 15, 1948; one son, Richard "Scott" (Michael Jane) Long of Liberty, Ohio; two daughters, Nancy A. (Rick) Lesh of Charlotte, N.C., and Sarah E. (Fred) Welsh of East Rochester, seven grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Jean Vogelhuber of Fairfax, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, E. Duane Long.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Rick A. Lesh and Pastor Rick Sams co-officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
