Richard E. Patterson age 83 of Alliance, died at his home at 9:45 p.m. March 11, 2004.
He was born December 31, 1920 in Alliance, Ohio to Byron and Leila (Barr) Patterson. Mr. Patterson graduated in 1937 from Alliance High School, and worked as a machinist at Morgan Engineering, retiring in 1964.
Mr. Patterson was a U. S. Army W.W. II veteran, serving with the Army Airway Communications System.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving on the financial board, Knights of Columbus Alliance Council 558, Joseph P. Conlon 4th degree assembly, and past faithful navigator and past grand knight. Mr. Patterson was the 1990 recipient of the Mayor's Citizenship Award, was the past treasurer and member of Morgan Engineers retirees. He was also associated with the hot food program at Anointed Fountain Church, since its inception with the former Knights of Columbus.
He was also the Stark County representative on the Area Agency on Aging.
He was also a member of the Alliance Senior Citizens Center, and member of the board of directors, member of Funtastiks and past president, and called bingo at the Alliance Senior Center.
Mr. Patterson enjoyed stamp collecting and traveling.
Survivors include, his wife, Clara (Galante) Patterson, whom he married Feb. 14, 1942, two daughters, Kathleen (Joseph) Pronio of Tallmadge, and Elizabeth (James) Whittaker of Bolivar, and six grandchildren; Chalice, Kendra, Kyle, Kirk, Jacob and Katerina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Michael Patterson, who died July 26, 1989.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Donald Feicht officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
