Richard J. Phillips, age 72, of Alliance, passed away peacefully, April 26, 2014 at Alliance Community Hospital with his family by his side.
A lifelong resident of Alliance, Richard was born February 26, 1942 to the late Earl and Mildred (Vrzak) Phillips.
Richard was employed as an engineer at The Timken Company, retiring after 40 years of service. He entertained many playing with his band The Detours and later playing with professional traveling bands. Richard was a lifelong member of the V.F.W. Post 1036.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifteen years, Joellen (Hadbavny) Phillips; son Rick (Malissa Miller) Phillips of Alliance, daughter Rayna (Tom) Bugara of Louisville, granddaughter Tara Phillips of Ocean Isle, NC, grandson Chris Elkins of Plantation, Fl; great-grandchildren Hunter and Harmony Mangus of Ocean Isle, NC; and sister Rosemary (George) Hudson of Lakeland, Fl.
In accordance to Richard's wishes, he will be cremated. A Celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, April 29th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the V.F.W. Post 1036, 1036 E. State St. Alliance, Ohio 44601.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to Angels of Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, Ohio 44406, or V.F.W. Post 1036.
