Robert Armstong, age 93 was born in Albany, NY and passed peacefully the morning of Feburary 17th, 2023.
He graduated from Kenmore Sr. High School located in Buffalo NY, and at the age of twenty-one served in the Korean War as an assistant seargent in the airforce while stationed in Europe and North Africa. Afterwards, he obtained a dual degree in anthropology and linguistics from the University of Seattle. While studying in Phildelphia, PA, he met his late wife Mary Armstrong. He and his wife spent their married years in Sacramento, CA until Mary’s passing.
He spent his career as a professor teaching anthropology and linguistics at the University of Sacremento. During which time, he studied Native American tribes of the Pacific NorthWest, focusing on their languages and cultures. He retired in his late 50s and moved to Alliance, OH to be closer to family, where he remained until his passing. He spent his later years donating to charities and avidly devouring books. He was known to friends as ‘the professor’.
Robert was involved in the Boy Scouts Troop #108 as an adult leader, he was a member of Limaville Lions Club and he was the President of the Village of Limaville.
He loved to read, go on long walks, and he also volunteered at the Mount Union Nature Center. Robert was always watching football.
He is survived by his two children, Bruce Armstrong and Wendy Cunningham, as well as two grandchildren, Ethan and Rachel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marylee Miller, and brothers Gerald and Roy Jr.
A funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Friday February 24th at 1:00 p.m., friends may call one hour prior at 12:00 p.m. Internment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
