Robert "Jack" Ayers, age 83, of Homeworth, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 4, 2012.
He was born December 22, 1928, in Alliance, to Byron C. and Opal (Hubbard) Ayers.
Jack was a graduate of Alliance High School and was employed by Columbia Gas of Ohio as a construction equipment operator for 39 years until retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the AARP, Alliance Area Senior Citizens Center, Key Harbor Association in Ontario, Canada, and a former member of the National Clock Association and Christ United Methodist Church.
Jack enjoyed repairing clocks, cutting wood, and most of all spending time with his family and friends in his garage. He also enjoyed the company of his pets.
Jack served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea serving with the 11th Airborne as a paratrooper.
Survivors include his wife, Delores "Dee" (Walker) Ayers whom he married August 12, 1961. Also surviving are his daughter; Joan (Jim) Ickes of Paris, OH, his son; Steven (Krista) Ayers of Alliance, five grandchildren; John Gasparik, Seth and Sophia Ayers, Carri Williams, and Katie Thomas. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna Ayers.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Peters officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Moultrie Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
