Robert I. Berardi, age 83, of Atwater, went home peacefully to our Lord in heaven at 12:20 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born September 2, 1929 in Ellsworth, Ohio to John and Mary (Cataline) Berardi.
Mr. Berardi graduated from Canfield High School in 1947 and served in the Army from 1949 to 1952. While in the Army he served in Okinawa, the Pentagon and was chosen to work in the White House garage during the Truman era.
After his service he attended Capitol Engineering Institute in Washington D.C. and graduated in 1955. He worked as an electric technician at Goodyear Aerospace for five years before going to Lear Seigler Aerospace, in Bedford, for 32 years. He finished work as a senior test engineer.
Robert attended the Church of Anointment for 25 years and also attended the Maranatha Church of God. He enjoyed fishing locally and in Canada, elk hunting in Colorado and hunting in Ohio and Pennsylvania, dancing, skating and working on his farm.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Berardi; sons, Robert T. and James E. Berardi; daughter, Margaret Giller; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dominic, Grant, Liberi (Pat), Joseph and John Jr.; and sisters, Elba (Honey) and Stella.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Mercy Medical Center for their exceptional care of Robert.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Caldwell officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013 and one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Rd., Suite 106, Alliance, OH 44601.
