Robert E. “Bob” Burrier, age 87, of Charlotte, NC (formerly from Alliance, OH), surrounded by his family, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday August 10, 2023.
Born on July 20, 1936 in Scio, OH to Raymond and Wilma (Russell) (Burrier) Stonebrook, he attended Dundee High School and then spent most of his life in Alliance, OH. From 1958-1960, he served in the US Army where he received awards for: Marksman (rifle), Sharpshooter (pistol) and 1st Class Gunner (rocket launcher).
Bob was a former member of First Church of God (Alliance) where he served as an usher and trustee and belonged to the Twilighters. He was also a member of Transformation Church of Hickory, NC. Bob was a member of the Alliance Senior Center and after a 23 year career, he retired from General Motors in 1996 where he was a Skilled Trades Maintenance Supervisor.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends and had a passion for cars and diecast collectibles. He and his wife, Fairy, loved to travel and go on Sunday afternoon drives but mostly enjoyed traveling to visit their daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids where he was simply known as “Papa.” Papa was big and tough, but he was a teddy bear with his daughter and grandkids. He just had a way of making everything right and making everyone feel safe. In addition to being an expert in his skilled trade, he was best known to everyone as the one who could build anything, fix anything and would help anybody. He and Fairy would have been married 70 years in October.
Survivors include his wife, Fairy Faye (Schwartz) Burrier of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Shelley (Rob) Gonci of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Pierce, Skyler and Paige Gonci; sister, Beverly Huey of MI; brother-in-law, Elden Furbay of New Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Todd Burrier; and step-sister, Barbara (Furbay) Riggel.
A funeral service will be held at First Church of God in Alliance, Ohio on Saturday, August 19th at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation prior from 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God, 505 N Lincoln Ave, Alliance, OH 44601.
