Robert D. Arbogast, age 81, of Alliance Ohio passed peacefully after a brave struggle at Alliance Community Care Center, Wednesday, June 21, 2006.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Donna Rae Arbogast, his loving daughter Gail Anne Thorpe, son-in-law John, and devoted son Robert Dean Arbogast II, daughter-in-law Becky. He was a proud grandfather to Denny, (Heidi), Dusty
Rae, and Devin Vance, Robert and Sarah Arbogast, Michael, Amber, and Kay Thorpe. His Great-Grandchildren Taylor and Austin Vance and Andrew Datz, his Grand-puppy Tisha, all of whom he loved greatly and of whom he was proud.
Bob was born on October 3, 1924 in Uhrichsville, Ohio to John H. and Edna Patterson-Arbogast where he lived until he was six years old. Upon the death of his father in 1930, the family moved to Euclid, Ohio where Bob grew up. He graduated from Collinwood High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in WW II from 1943-46, where he bravely served in the Pacific Theater.
Bob and Donna were married July 1, 1949, moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where Bob worked at Morse Instrument Co. in Hudson and attended Kent State University. They later moved to Alliance, Oh, were Bob became a Vocational Education teacher at Alliance High School, where he worked 25 years until he retired.
Bob was totally devoted to his family and his passion for traveling with his wife, Donna. They traveled in the motor home across country, from Alaska, thru the Mid-West, to New England and south to their winter home in Ft. Myers, Fla. Adding to their many collections of antique cars, clocks (which he repaired), trains, and friends along the way.
He was a life-long member of the DAV, VFW, AM VETS, Masonic Order Scottish Rite, S.T.R.S., ORTA, Iota Lambda Sigma, FMCC, AARP, Alliance Masonic Order Conrad Lodge, Alliance Shrine Club, Tadmor Temple, Order of Eastern Star #296, Science Hill Historical Society, various RV travel organizations, Elks, The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, USMC Bomber Squadron 341, Marine Corps Heritage and a founding member of the PA and AOD Goldenrods.
Bob's infectious spirit, kindness and love were reflected in his smile and the laughter in his eyes. He was loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him as a husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, solider, teacher, neighbor, and friend.
Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday.
