Robert Emmett Egan

October 17, 1938 — February 24, 2024

Robert Emmett "Bob" Egan, age 85, of Alliance, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2024, at his son’s home in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born on October 17, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois. Bob was a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force as a Personnel Specialist from April 9, 1958, to October 31, 1981, and retired as a Master Sergeant. As one of his career highlights, he received the Bronze Star for outstanding achievement and bravery during his deployment in Vietnam.

During his Air Force career, Bob was stationed at various bases, including Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) for basic training, Barksdale AFB, Thule Air Base, Ellsworth AFB, Vandenberg AFB, Grand Forks AFB, and Randolph AFB. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he held positions as a Facility Security Services Officer, as well as co-owner in various business ventures in the Converse/Schertz, Texas regions. Bob enjoyed watching sports, working his stock market investments, and monitoring the world’s political landscape.

Bob had a great sense of humor and was known for his love of music, dancing, and sports, especially supporting his 'Fighting Irish' of Notre Dame. He was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a staunch supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. He held conservative and patriotic views and was always willing to help family members in need.

He is survived by his children Margie (Garry) Talbot, Deborah (Leslie) Short, Greg (Sharon) Egan, and Brian (Christel) Egan, and his stepchildren Libby (Steve) Jarvis, Greg Wachunas, and Sarah Bigelow-Wachunas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward S. and M. Frances (McGuire) Egan, first wife Joan Egan, second wife Cheryl Egan, sisters Margaret Egan, Kathleen Dobernick, Mary Frances Peterson, Joan Egan, and brothers John (Jack) Egan, Edward Egan, and Thomas Egan. He leaves a legacy of 7 children, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Bob Egan will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his unique sense of humor, and his love for his family. He was a man of simple faith, who knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. We look forward to seeing him again one day, based on God’s promise in John 1-4: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
