Robert W. Jones, age 91, of Sebring, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born May 21, 1919 in Alliance, Ohio to William R. and Jessie (Auld) Jones.
Robert was a 1938 graduate from Alliance High School and a 1947 graduate of Mt. Union College with a BA degree. He was a long time member of the First United Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon, elder and trustee.
Robert was co-owner of Alliance Builders Supply, with his brother Richard, from 1948 until 1992. The company had operated in Alliance for 102 years.
He was a former member of the Alliance Chamber of Commerce, Alliance Lions Club, Alliance Country Club and was a current member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Tadmore Shrine - 40 and 8 #925, American Legion #166, Alliance Shrine Club, Conrad Masonic Lodge #271, and Scottish Rite Valley of Canton.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Alaskan Command 1942-1945.
Survivors include his wife,
Betty (Lynn) Jones whom he married March 11, 1945 ; two daughters, Lynn (Paul) Meyers of Kissimmee, FL and Janice (David) Hawkins of Sebring; grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan and Rachel Hawkins; great-grandchild, Max Hawkins; twin brother, Richard (Ruth) Jones of Sebring; and brother-in-law, Austin C. Lynn of Phoenix, AZ.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; sister and brother-in-law, Isabel and Don Howell; sister-in-law Joan Lynn and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Horace and Ann Lynn.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
