Robert M. Jones, Sr., age 81, of Alliance, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born July 20, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Nathaniel and Esther (Mitchell) Jones.
Robert worked at Alliance Drop Forging as a hammer man and was later a foreman of the hammer shop. He also was the owner of Bob Jones Lawn Rolling and worked for Judge Lavery as a CIP supervisor.
When Robert arrived in Alliance, he became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as usher. He later became a member of the Arlington Church of God in Akron.
He was also a former member of the Jaycees, Knights of Columbus and NAACP.
Robert was an avid bird watcher and loved to work on his lawn and in his garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Robert Jones, Jr., Theresa Esther Jones and William Jones; brother, Nathaniel Jones; and sisters, Esther Snead, and Bette Hanson.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Holley) Jones, whom he married on August 11, 1981; son, Robert (Gwen) Jones, III; daughter, Marsha Washington; son, Jeffery Jones; sister, Evelyn Dunklin; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Anointed Fountain COGIC, 405 E. Columbia St., Alliance, with Superintendent Dr. Nick Myers, Jr. eulogizing and Elder Melvin Lightner officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 2, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
