Robert R. Hunter, Sr., Attorney at Law, age 90, of Alliance passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Community Care Center.
He was born February 28, 1919 in Alliance to F.E. and Edith (Kayler) Hunter and was a lifelong Alliance resident.
Attorney Hunter was a 1937 graduate of Alliance High School, a 1941 graduate of Mount Union College and a 1950 graduate of William McKinley School of Law. He was a partner and attorney at Hunter and Hunter Attorneys at Law in Alliance for more than 50 years and retired in 2007.
He was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army for three years and served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II.
A member of Christ United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, he was on the Staff Parish Commission, the Finance Commission and the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Lions Club, United Commercial Travelers, Past President of the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce, Scoutmaster for Troup 50 of the Boy Scouts, member of the American Legion, Alliance Bar Association, Stark County Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Survivors include his son Attorney Robert R. Jr. (Mary Beth) Hunter of Alliance; daughter Sue (Robert) Commerson of High Point, North Carolina; three grandchildren Jeffery R. Hunter of Sunnyvale, California, Scott Commerson of Los Angeles, California and Tracy Commerson of Flemington New Jersey; step-grandson Kyle D. Kocher of Hartville, brothers Edmund Hunter of Kirkwood, Missouri and William Hunter of Euclid; and a sister Margaret Reisch of Sebring.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eileen K. (Kienzle) Hunter whom he married March 3, 1945 and who died January 10, 2004; and a brother, Frederick Hunter of Alliance.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Martin officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. prior to the service.
