Robert T. White, M.D.

d. May 31, 2013

Robert Tressel White M.D., age 88, of Alliance, passed away at his home on May 31, 2013 after a short illness.
He was born June 7, 1924 at Alliance City Hospital to Myron Andrew and Elma (Tressel) White, and was a lifelong resident of Alliance.
Dr. White was a graduate of Alliance High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, and after the war enrolled in Johns Hopkins University, graduating in 1947. He was a 1952 graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. White was a founding member of the Johns Hopkins Medical Alumni Council. His practice of Medicine in Alliance began in 1958, and after 32 years, and 10,000 babies delivered, he retired in 1990.
Throughout his life Dr. White was one of the most dedicated physicians who responded generously to appeals for help in support of projects to benefit the Alliance community. He served on the boards of Alliance Community Hospital, First National City Bank and Bank One of Alliance. He was honored with the Alliance YMCA's first Service to Youth Award in 1987, received the McKinley Fellow Award from Mount Union College in 1996 and was presented with the 2005 Legacy Award from the Alliance Chamber of Commerce.
In 1999, Dr. White established the Dr. Robert T. and Phyllis S. White Endowed Chair in Art at Mount Union College. His most recent pride and joy was the establishment of the Robert T. White School of Practical Nursing named in his honor. He was proud to be associated with the school created through the Greater Alliance Foundation in 2004, happily attending graduation ceremonies.
Dr. White was an avid reader and enjoyed a lifetime of extensive travel both with his wife Phyllis, and since her death in 1995. He enjoyed his friends and family, and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, N. Andrew White of San Francisco, CA and Christena (James) Robinson of Bixby, OK; grandchildren Kurt Andrew (Yasmin) Robinson of Santa Clara, CA and Stacie Anne Robinson of Lawrence, KS his brother, Myron Andrew (Gloria) White II of Cincinnati, OH, his sister, Myra White Martin of Baltimore, MD, and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly 50 years, Phyllis (Siddall), who died in 1995; and two sisters, Jane White Fleet and Anne White Kennedy.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the loving and compassionate care Dr. White received from all the staff at Caring Hands and Alliance Hospice, and Dr. Mark Hostettler. Also many thanks for the amazing support from Jack and Madge Peters, Dr. Dan Kibler, Mike Ogline, and everyone at Stifel Nicolaus.
The family wants to especially thank Diane Blasiman for 27 years of loyalty and service. She was more than an employee and went above and beyond to help in whatever way she could.
Services for Dr. White will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with The Rev. Timothy Muse officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
