Robert E. Stauffeneger, Sr

March 21, 1921 — April 19, 2006

Robert E. Stauffeneger Sr., age 85, a life long resident of the Alliance area, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in the Alliance Community Care Center following an extended illness.
Born March 20, 1921 in North Benton, he was the son of John and Martha (Friedlie) Stauffenegger who emigrated from Berne, Switzerland. He graduated from Sebring High School in 1939. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII in the Rhineland and Central Europe as a 1st sergeant.
Mr. Stauffeneger was in the trucking industry his whole life. He owned Alliance Transfer, Reliable Machinery Haulers, and later merged with R. Kuntzman Inc. where he was a partner until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the First Immanuel United Church of Christ where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder. Robert was active in the community where he was a life member of the American Legion Post 166; 40 & 8 Alliance City chapter; VFW Post 1036; Elk Lodge No 467 and held memberships in the Alliance Lion's Club with 48 years of perfect attendance, Combat Infantryman's Association, Alliance Area Republican Club, VFW Honor Guard, and was a 20 gallon blood donor. He was recently recognized by the VFW for folding over 1,000 flags at military funerals.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Bonne (Rhoads Boardley) Stauffeneger; sons Robert (Patricia) Stauffeneger Jr. of Palm Coast, FL and Carl (Patricia) Stauffeneger of Ashtabula; daughters Cheryl (Richard) DeHeer of Massillon and Rebecca (Tim) Byland of Orting, WA; step-son John (Rebecca) Boardley of Alliance; five beloved grandchildren Veronica (Brad) Palmer of Alliance, Ryan DeHeer of Chicago, IL, Steven DeHeer of Garfield Heights, Scott Stauffeneger of Columbus, Tai Byland of Puyallup, WA; two step-grandchildren Dawn Koleszar of Rustburg,VA, Scott Byland of Middleburg Heights; two great-grand children Alex and Noah Palmer of Alliance, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and six brothers.
Friends and family may call at the Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral home, 75 S. Union Avenue in Alliance, Sunday, April 23, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday April 24 an hour prior to the funeral services.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 24th, 2006 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home the burial to take place at Hartzell Cemetery in North Benton.
