Born on March 19, 1920, Robert Sutton was the fifth child of twelve born to the late Perry and Esther Sutton. A World War II Army veteran of the Pacific theater Robert was a life-long resident of the Alliance area. He was employed as a Foreman for the Stark County Highway Department for thirty-two years and later worked for Cunningham's Country Furniture. Robert was a life-time member of Alliance Salem United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Washington Ruritan Club and was elected to four terms as a Washington Township Trustee.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather Robert enjoyed people. Whether holding a child on his knee dressed as Santa Claus at Holiday events, talking to harness horse racing fans at the Stark County Fair where he worked as a security guard over forty years, or waving to passing cars from his garden, Robert knew no strangers.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Margaret Sutton; a brother Jess Sutton of Canton, Ohio; sisters, Arlene Sallee of Omaha, Arkansas, Edna Browning of Minerva, Ohio, and Maxine Ban of Parma Heights, Ohio. Robert is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Sutton of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Adam and Kelley Sutton of Richmond, Virginia; brothers, Howard Sutton of Alliance, George Sutton and Stanley Sutton of Homeworth, Richard Sutton of Minerva; sisters, Annabelle Stinson of Louisville, Marjorie Garmier of Alliance, and Mary Fickenscher of Chicago, Illinois.
