Robert Howard 'Tolly' Tolerton, age 88, of Alliance, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Aultman Hospital.
He was born October 19, 1926, in Alliance, Ohio, to Robert I. and Carol (Goodyear) Tolerton.
Tolly was an Alliance High School graduate, had attended Purdue University, The Ohio State University and graduated from Mount Union College.
He was owner of the Ski Shack and R. Tolerton Company. His memberships included the East Central Ohio Pilots Association, the National Ski Patrol and the Stark County Ski Club. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.
Tolly was known as the "Ski Maestro", as he taught many to ski at Boston Mills Ski Resort. His other passion was flying. He got his pilot's license at 19 and flew/owned numerous aircraft. He also enjoyed golfing with his wife and buddies at Eagle Pass, boating on Lake Erie, and bicycling on the Towpath and at Maumee Bay State Park.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Regula) Tolerton; son, Daniel (Tammy) Tolerton; six grandchildren; brothers, Joel (Mimi) Tolerton and Terry (Judy) Tolerton; father-in-law, John Regula; aunt, Shirley Espenschied; in-laws, Tim (Terry) Regula, Barb (Ruedy) Leeman and Pam Blackson; and many nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
