Longtime Alliance resident and former Mt. Union College professor, Robert W. Tripp passed away Monday April 11, 2005. He was 92 years of age.
Mr. Tripp received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Maryville College in Tennessee and his Masters from Harvard University. He began his teaching career in a one room school house in Carrollton, Ohio, where he instructed grades 1 through 12.
After moving to Alliance, Mr. Tripp served as Administrator and Professor Emeritus at Mt. Union College for 32 years. He retired in 1978 and was actively involved in the community.
Robert was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and AARP. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where he was an Elder, and taught the Stanton Bible Class for 22 years. Mr. Tripp volunteered for the Red Cross and served as a board member at the Salvation Army for more than 18 years.
He was also a member of the Alliance Toastmaster's Club and received a number of speaking awards.
Mr. Tripp was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Willimae R. Tripp, who died Sept. 19, 2004, and his parents, William and Grace (Woods) Tripp.
He is survived by four daughters, Tanya (David) Shively of Aurora, Marcia Siedel of Rocky River, Linda (William) Meiter of Sun City, Ca., and Cheryl (David) Hacker of Dayton; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren,
A private family service will be held on Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Horak officiating.
