Robert Walter Warren, age 91, of Alliance, passed away at 4:11 a.m., Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born February 26, 1923, in Alliance, Ohio, to Lester and Mary (Stroump) Warren and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1942, Ohio Christian College and the National Radio Institute of Washington D.C.
Robert retired from Ohio Edison in 1984 as an electrical engineer after more than 37 years of service.
He was a member of the Vine Street United Methodist Church and its stewardship committee.
Robert was founder and president of the Warren Realty Company, past president of National Brokers Council, Provident Realty and of the Ohio Edison Men's Club. He also owned the former downtown Alliance business, Miniature World.
Robert's memberships included the Elks Lodge, American Legion, 8th Air Force Association, UCT and former member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and the Tampa Florida Magic Club. He was a partner of the late Judge John Thomas in the South Union Avenue Plaza and member of the Alliance Shade Tree Commission of which he was appointed by the late Mayor Frances Carr.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served three years with the 489th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, Second Air Division, in the European Theater during World War II. He was part of the first group to return and train on the Boeing B-29 Super Fortress.
Robert and Helen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2006. He loved and enjoyed his family and grandchildren, magic and working with Master Magician, Bill Kahn: with whom he performed hundreds of benefit shows for more than 20 years. As a youth Robert was an Alliance City marble champion from 1933 to 1934.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen (Bell) Warren of the home; children, Barbara K. (Dave) Sines of Alliance, Lynn Huff (Don Donovan) of Alliance, Fredrick Allen (Kimberly) Roberts of Newark and Robert L. (Linda) Warren of North Canton; grandchildren, Dale Scott of Alliance, Bob (Lisa) Huff of Lima, Brad Huff of Alliance, Robert M. (Christina) Warren of North Canton, Maegan Roberts of Jacksonville, Florida, Tiffany (Brian) Linc of North Canton, Ryan Roberts of Columbus, Christina (Noah) Murphy of Canton and Nicholas Roberts of Newark; ten great-grandchildren, and a sister Arwilda Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rosalie Hope (Brannon) Warren; sister, Gertrude Wilson; brothers, William and Donald Warren; grandson, Shawn Scott and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2014 at Vine Street United Methodist Church with Dr. David W. Bloor officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church Monday. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
