Robert L. Weaver age 78 of Louisville died at 8:05 a.m. Friday May 30, 2003 at Aultman Hospital surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
He was born in Washington Twp. on Nov. 12, 1924 to the late L.E. and Alta (Youtz) Weaver. He had been a Washington Twp. resident working for The Tolerton Co. for many years until moving to Conover, N.C. 31 years ago. While living in N.C. he worked for E.R. Carpenter and was also employed by Sackner Products of Statesville. Robert returned to this area 7 years ago following his retirement.
During World War II he was with the 1st Cavalry Division as a security guard at Division Headquarters where he was assigned to protect Division Generals Chase and Mudge. He served in New Guinea, Philippines, Manila, the Admiralty Islands and was among the first in Japan with General McArthur.
Robert was a member of the Beechwood United Methodist Church, and a member of American Legion Post 166 in Alliance.
He is survived by his wife Doris Ritchie and 3 daughters; Linda (Bob) Showers of Sebring, Barbara (Charles) Renz of Beechwood, Connie Stiffler of Victoria, Texas, 1 son Randy Weaver of Alliance, 3 step-children; Marsha (Richard) Glass, Rick (Barbara) Nelson, Tom (Wanda) Nelson of Uniontown and numerous Grandchildren. Mr. Weaver was also survived by three sisters Lela Bernard of Cortland, Dorothy Dourm of Deerfield, Martha Honaker of Alliance and 1 brother John Weaver of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 step-son Timothy, a brother Ralph and a sister Evelyn Dourm.
The Alliance American Legion and VFW Posts will provide Military Honors.
