Robert Mathias Wentzel, Sr., age 85, of Beloit, died at 5:11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Salem Community Hospital.
He was born in Greenford, Ohio, June 17, 1922 to Mathias and Maria (Miller) Wentzel and lived in the Alliance area since 1948. He was a graduate of Greenford High School and was a retired line foreman with the Ohio Edison Company and a member of the Sebring Masonic Lodge #626 F&AM, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Tadmor Temple, member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 76 of Sebring.
Robert was a member of the Westville Community Bible Church and was a WWII U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Mary Webster Wentzel of Beloit, whom he married December 4, 1948; two daughters, Sharon Beth (Stephen) Cochran of Lewis Center, Ohio and Linda Maria Wentzel of Salem; one son, Robert Mathias (Diane) Wentzel, Jr. of Canfield, six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Dorothy) Wentzel; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ethel Wentzel, Helen Shields and one brother, Walter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Rod Doran officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
Masonic Services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.
