Robert Baumgartner passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 10:23 p.m. surrounded by his loving family at Aultman Alliance Community Care Center following an extended illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Alliance, born on April 24, 1941. A 1960 graduate of Alliance High School, he worked at the Alliance Machine Company and retired after more than 40 years of service. He was a member of the BPO Elks No. 467 and Alliance Senior Center where he enjoyed playing ping pong. He was a past member of the Christopher Columbus Society. He was a member of an area softball league for many years and in the past participated in the Senior Olympics. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. He enjoyed skiing, gardening and making Italian pizzelles and listening to Italian music. He loved shopping at the Hartville and Rogers Flea Markets. Most of all he loved spending time with family whether it was a large family reunion or a small gathering of family or friends on the front porch.
Survivors include his wife, Sara (Calderone) of 53 years; sons, Robert T. Baumgartner (Kelly Green) of Alliance; Brian S. Baumgartner (Nicky White) of Minerva; sister, Patricia Barnes Roman (Garry) of Alliance; sister-in-law, Angela Calderone Tortora (Angelo); brothers, Leslie M. Barnes (Joanne) of Homeworth, Dick Baumgartner (Pam), and Tom Baumgartner (Dede), both of North Carolina. Survivors also include a special extended family of Ken, Jan, Connor and Kendra Ruffier. Their love and support over many years will always be remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen "Lena" Favazzo Barnes and Merle Barnes, and Ted Baumgartner of North Carolina; and a sister, Sarah Harrell of North Carolina.
Services will be held Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 12 noon at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, November 21st from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and nurses for their excellent care at both Aultman Alliance and Canton Hospitals.
