Roger W. Betz

Roger W. Betz, age 85, passed away on July 8, 2024. 

He was born on April 12, 1939, in Alliance, to Charles Leo and Violet (Sell) Betz.

Roger worked for American Steel Foundries until his retirement. He served honorably in the United States Navy and the Army National Guard.

Roger was a member of the American Legion post 166 and the Alliance Senior Center. He coached girls’ softball and Hot Stove baseball. Roger led his Hot Stove team to win the state championship in 1981. He also loved to fish and play shuffle board. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judith (Betts) Betz; children, Charles A. (Heather) Betz, Tammy Betz, and Wendy (Richard) Smith; five grandchildren, Kara (Matt) Zorich, Allan Betz, Ashley Betz, Dylanni Smith, and Makenzie (Anthony) Szczepaniak; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Sgt. Dennis Betz; brother, Charles Betz; sisters, Dorothy, Ruby, Marge, and Harriet; and many nieces and nephews. 

 A graveside service with Naval Honors will be held at Alliance City Cemetery on July 20th at 11:00 a.m.
