Roger S. Griffin

November 18, 1929 — January 3, 2018

Roger Stratton Griffin, 88, of Alliance, Ohio, passed away on January 3rd, 2018.
He was born in Wauseon, Ohio, to the late Peter and Sadie Griffin. He lived most of his life in Wauseon, Columbiana, Deerfield and Malvern, Ohio.
Roger is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pauline (Trudel); children, Elaine (Bob) Puz of Malvern; Mark (Carol) Griffin of Denver, Colorado; Eric (Connie) Griffin of Malvern; Bruce (Shayna) Griffin of Columbus; and Nancy Griffin of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by his brothers, Hal Griffin and Rev. Jerry Griffin. He was grandpa to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and "Uncle Roger Bear" to many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his stepbrother, Bernard Behnke and stepsister, Bernita Lauber.
Roger graduated from Tiffin University with a Bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked his entire career as an accountant with Landmark/Countrymark, in addition to providing accountant services to many family and friends. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served for 30 plus years active/reserve, retiring in November 1989. He also served as a long-time Scoutmaster for Troop 69 in Columbiana. As a Scout, Roger was the first of three generations of Griffins to experience Philmont.
Roger was an active member of Lutheran churches in the communities where he lived, most recently St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alliance. In his spare time, Roger cherished time spent with family and long-time friends, time at Lake Mohawk and traveling.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alliance. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.
Roger's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Danbury Assisted Living of Alliance for their love, compassion and friendship, and also to Alliance Hospice for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in "Honor of Roger Griffin" to Camp Frederick, PO Box 258 Rogers, OH 44455, where Roger spent endless hours volunteering; or in "Honor of Roger Griffin" to Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, 2301 13th St. Canton, OH 44708.
