Brother Ronald M. Roy, went to his heavenly reward at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008. The following obituary was written by Brother Roy during his illness. He was born February 11, 1940, in Lanesville, W. Va. to Ruby M. Roy and Gerald Snyder. He was raised by his maternal grandmother and grandfather with special supervision of his Aunt Helen and Mother. He attended the one room Lanesville White School from grade one to eight. His freshman year he attended Davis High School, his sophomore year he attended Parsons High School. His junior and senior years were spent at Mountaineer Senior High School, Thomas, W. Va. He was always there to pass an answer to those who didn't have it. During his school years, he worked on a farm and picked berries to sell. He took a three month break after graduation then joined the U.S Army during the Vietnam Era, where he served nine years, stationed in SC, GA, NJ, Germany, Fort Knox, Ky, Ft. Mead, MD, Korea, Ft. Hood, TX, and Heilsrook, Germany. He was promoted to Sargent in less than 18 months. His training was in telephone repair and installation. During his second tour he found his way into supply. He married Faye L. Tenney on September 18, 1965 and decided that military wasn't for a married man. On his discharge, they found their way to Ohio, where he became employed by General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio. He retired November 1, 2002 with 34 years service after a bout with lung cancer. Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Faye L. (Tenney) Roy; daughter, Jessie (Donnie) Maggard of Alliance and grandson, Justin. He is survived on his maternal side by brother, Tommy (Shirley) Simmons and son, Scott of Salem; Shirley (Danny) Wilson, Manassas, Va.; sister, Jean (Mark) Toth of Philippi, W. Va., and sister Rosile Vance of Lanesville, W. Va; his neighbor who was his best friend, Don Price, (Bev Price and sons) whom he loved like a brother and many nieces and nephews. Ronald never met his natural father till the spring of 1996. They enjoyed each other for four good years. He was preceded in death by uncles and aunts who were like brothers and sisters to him, Arch F. Roy, Helen S. Roy, Elmer Roy, Darwin Roy, Leon Roy and Norma Lee Roy; and on his paternal side by his father Gerald Snyder and step-father, J.A. Simmons. Survived on his paternal side by sister, Becky (Tom) Parks; brothers, Roger (Beth) Snyder, Terry (Pat) Snyder, Gary (Bev) Snyder and Ronald (Valerie) Snyder. Ronald became a brother in 1979 when he experienced his new birth while attending the Pennsylvania Free-Will Baptist Church. He later became a member of the Alliance Independent Baptist Church. He became treasurer in 1981 until his death. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Elder Burl Middleton and Elder Jim Owens officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
