Ruth A. McConnell

Ruth A. McConnell, age 90, of Alliance, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2011 at Bel Air Care Center.
She was born February 11, 1921 in Alliance, Ohio to Charles R. and Ethel B. (Conser) McConnell.
Ruth graduated in 1939 from Alliance High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Union College in 1942, before receiving her master's degree in education.
Miss McConnell taught English and Latin for 34 years at State Street Junior High and Alliance High School, before retiring from Canton Lehman High School in Canton in 1976.
A member of Christ United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Alliance Garden Club, having served as Horticulture Chairman, member of the Alliance Woman's Club, and member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Xi Delta Sororities.
Survivors include two sisters, Jean Herman of Hudson, Ohio and Mary Lou Christie of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one nephew, Douglas Christie of State College, PA; and two nieces, Joanne Cain, of Missoula, Montana, and Kathleen Herman, of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Stonebraker officiating. Friends may call from 10:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday. Private interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alliance Visiting Nurse Hospice Association, 885 S. Sawburg Rd., Alliance, Ohio 44601, or the charity of the donor's choice.
