Ruth Baird Atherton, age 88, passed away at Compassionate Care Center on Friday January 15, 2021.
She was born on April 12, 1932 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Morris and Amanda (Brumbaugh) Weisel.
Ruth was a 1950 graduate of Alliance High School and a 1963 graduate of Timken Mercy School of Practical Nursing. She retired in 1994 from Alliance Community Hospital after 30 years.
She was a member of the First Church of God where she was the organist for over 70 years. Ruth loved to bake and was known to have the best chocolate chip cookies. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sue Baird and Terry (Robin) Baird; grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Johnson, Amanda (Carl) Hill and Zachary (Krissy) Baird; great grandchildren, Hunter Johnson, Harper Hill, Everett Baird, Emerson Baird and Eliza Baird; step children, Carol Atherton, Charlene McGrath, Claudia Ringwald, Cathy Wolfgang, Timothy Atherton and their families; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Rollin Baird whom she married November 23, 1950 and who passed away December 29, 1989, her second husband, Robert Atherton whom she married May 20, 1995 and who passed away December 17, 2000; brother, Dale Weisel; and sisters, Miriam Shutt and Lois Beck.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Gruver officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
