Ruth J. Holibaugh, age 98, of Southbury, Connecticut, formerly of Alliance and Park Forest, Illinois, passed away at 6:28 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Lutheran Home of Southbury.
She was born May 4, 1919, in Alliance, Ohio to William and Elizabeth (Fronk) Fites.
Ruth was a 1937 graduate of Alliance High School, employed as a receptionist-telephone operator at Alliance Machine Company, then a secretary-receptionist at Allis-Chalmers (Industrial Truck Division) in Matteson, Illinois, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, served on the board of WELCA, and was a greeter and former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 296, a past Worthy Matron from 1967, and president of the Searchlight Club. Her hobbies included golfing, crafting, sewing, and letter-writing. She was Sunshine Ambassador for several groups.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Wilbur (Penny) Holibaugh of Waterbury, Vermont; granddaughters, Amy Holibaugh (Ian Turkle) of Waterbury, Vermont and Eve Holibaugh (Chad Buck) of Nashville, Tennessee; sister, Kathryn Paina of Alliance; two great-granddaughters, Rowan and Lyra Turkle of Waterbury, Vermont; nephews, Gregory and Terry Paina of Alliance, Paul Fites of Tucson, Arizona, Edwin Stockli of Deerfield, and Karen Jean Stockli Jarvis of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph William Holibaugh whom she married February 7, 1941 and who died October 25, 1975; sisters, Gladys Pomper and Bernice Stockli; brother, Wilbur Fites; and nephews, Duane Drake, Rev. Marlin Drake and Barry Fites.
Services will be held at Noon Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call at 11 a.m. prior to the service. An Order of The Eastern Star Service will be held at 10 a.m. prior to visitation. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
