Ruth Leyda, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, in Kent, Ohio. Born in 1917 in Akron, Ruth moved to Alliance with her husband Bill, where she became a mother and then a teacher.
Named a Jennings Scholar, Ruth taught fourth and fifth grades at Rockhill School for many years. She also belonged to the Alliance Women's Club, the YWCA, the Alliance Country Club, Eastern Star and Immanuel United Church of Christ. Square dancing, playing bridge and golfing were her passions as well as telling tall tales to anyone who would listen.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah, son-in-law John; her twin granddaughters, Sarah and Rosie and her special friend, Doris Garlock. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years; Bill; her sister, Lois; and her parents.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Should you desire, memorials can be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
