Ruth Stanley-Vesseriat died at 1:48 a.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at Bel Air Care Center.
She was born in 1916, to Clarence and Julia (Earnest) Beck.
Ruth graduated from the eighth grade at Lexington Township School and had attended the Lexington United Methodist Church.
She was extremely fond of being a life resident of the "Carnation City" Alliance, Ohio. The highlight of her day was to read the "Alliance Review".
Ruth hailed from sturdy pioneer stock of the American Revolution Ranger Spy, Zachariah and Margaret (McDaniel) Fisher who had settled in Portage County. Both lineages of her maternal (Fisher-Calvin-Earnest) and paternal (Charlton-Beck) families were early Ohio settlers.
Ruth held membership in the Jane Bane OSDAR Chapter, the First Families of Portage County and a former member of the Portage County Genealogy Society, the Auxiliary to the Sons of the Union Veteran of the Civil War and The Alliance Genealogy Society.
She was a homemaker, until at 47 years of age with no marketable skills; she entered the workplace as a kitchen helper at Schafer's Diner. Her second employment was to clean offices at Robertson Heating Supply. Upon her 75th birthday she and her battery-operated computer duster retired.
In retirement Ruth assisted her daughter, Sherry Stanley Syme establish the "Kitty Refuge" (a no-kill shelter), its mission being to adopt kittens into caring homes. When Sherry's health declined, the Kitty Refuge was closed and its monetary account transferred to a no-kill shelter in Akron, Ohio.
Ruth was preceded in death by two former husbands, Clayton A. Stanley and ; her siblings and their spouses, John W. (Mary Santee) Beck, Helen W. Beck (Thomas) Summers; her daughter, Sherry (Stanley) Wheeler-Ray-Syme; infant grandson, Race Ray Wheeler; infant granddaughter, Shawna Lynn Ray; and grandson, Duane Heim.
Ruth (Beck) Stanley is survived by her daughter, Faye (Stanley) Heim; granddaughter, Brenda Heim; stepdaughter, Bonnie Stanley; and son-in-law, Ronald Syme.
Other surviving descendants of this pioneer lineage are her nephews, Richard (Linda) Beck, Aubrey Beck, and Robert (Doris) Summers; and niece, Mary Jane (Martin) Schillig and their families.
Services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to a no-kill animal shelter or The Review's Newspapers in Education (NIE) program would be appreciated.
