Ruth M. Sweger

Ruth M. Sweger, 88, entered into rest on October 22, 2024 in North Augusta, SC.

Ruth was born March 30, 1936, to the late James W. Betts and Elsie D. Betts. She was raised in Canton, OH, having made North Augusta, SC her home for the past eight years. Ruth married Paul E. Sweger, Sr. in 1961 and together they worked and ministered across the northeast for over 40 years with the Salvation Army. During her ministry with the Salvation Army, she played the piano, organ and baritone. Most notably though, Mrs. Sweger was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and selfless servant who supported her children and family, extended family and three foster daughters. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Sweger, Sr. and six siblings.

Survivors include two sons, Paul E. Sweger, Jr. (Michelle) and John A. Sweger (Michelle Thomas); grandchildren, Kelsea VanderWerff (Geoff), Baileigh Sweger, Mariska Sweger and John B. Sweger; great-grandchildren, Lacey VanderWerff and Lucus VanderWerff and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 28th, at 11:00 A.M., at Marlboro Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
