Ruth V. Thomas, age 84, of Alliance passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Roselawn Terrace. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Matt Thomas.
Ruth was known and loved by her family as "Gami" She was born January 14, 1925 in Charleston, South Carolina and lived in Alliance since 1954. She was a member of Eastern Star since 1943 and graduated from Hannah Mullins School of Practical Nursing in 1963. "Gami" will be remembered by family and friends for her generosity, her warm and caring heart and her devotion to them. She was known for always opening her home to others and touching the lives of those around her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, David R. (Debbie) Thomas, Sandy (Jeff) Citino, Becky (Fred ) Sines and Sami (Perry) Bowlin; eight grandchildren, Amanda Thomas, Kate Thomas, Jill Price, John Oyster, Jacob Cox, Sarah (Josh) Gelter, Andrea (Mike) Williams and Danielle Bowlin; five step grandchildren, Bryan and Brent Honnerlaw, Kealie Grimm, Kyle Citino and Kim Corp; four great-grandchildren, Savannah Herald, Brennan and Lauren Price and Matilyn Williams; six step-great-grandchildren, Garret and Graden Grimm, Daniel and Demi Sines and Taia and JP Corp and one brother, Ted (Polly) Varnadore. Ruth is also survived by the numerous caregivers and friends she came to know at Roselawn and the friends of her children who she loved as well.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Ruth (Belcher) Varnadore and step-mother, Gertrude Herold; her brothers, Doug, Rob and Frank Varnadore; one grandson Ernie Cox and her loyal Shih Txu, Paige.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday January 22, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian with Pastor Dave Storlie officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park.
Ruth's family is so grateful for the loving care she received while residing at Roselawn Terrace. We extend gratitude to all of you for going above and beyond and caring for her as if she were your own. We will be forever grateful.
