Ruth M. Gray Walter, age 86 of Alliance, passed away at Kingston Residence in Marion, Ohio at 11:10 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010.
She was born July 8, 1924 in East Palestine, Ohio to Edmund Jones Gray and Emma (Morey) Gray.
Mrs. Walter graduated in 1942 from East Palestine High School and was employed as a secretary for 25 years at M&W Electric Mfg. in East Palestine.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in East Palestine and First Christian Church in Alliance since 1977.
Ruth belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Alliance Woman's Club, and served on the board of the Salvation Army and YMCA. She also was a contributing supporter of the Alliance Foundation.
Survivors include her daughter, Gayle I. (James A.) Sutherin of Marion, Ohio; stepson Bryant Walter of Georgia; sisters, Jane Bucher of Clarksville, Tennessee and Edna Lambright of Newport, NC; two granddaughters; four step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne E. Walter, who died July 6, 1981; and one stepdaughter, Brenda Tamper.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave. Alliance, Ohio, with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
