Sally Ann Smith, a lifelong resident of Deerfield, Ohio, went to her new home in heaven May 24, 2023, after a long battle of with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Walter W. Smith Jr. She was born to Katherine (M-John) and William B. Murphy in Alliance, Ohio on December 7, 1951, who also proceeded her in death.
She is loved by her children, Matthew (Beth) Smith, and Daniel, (Sandi) Smith; grandchildren, Caleb (Mari) Smith, Mikhaela (Austin) Smith, Pollyanna Smith, Xerxes (Nicole) Smith, Davia, Smith, Isaiah Smith, and Isaac Smith. She is also survived by her brothers, Chuck Murphy, Steve Murphy, George (Jeanine) Murphy, sister, Jeanie Murphy-Mull, and brother, Dale Murphy.
Sally and Walter married June 26th, 1971. They soon rented a little converted garage house on St. Rt. 224 where they spent a few years and had their first son. A few years later they moved down the street to simple former farmhouse where they built a family with love and courage. Sally spent her time taking care of her two boys and raising them to know Jesus. In those years she taught them to cook, garden, to care about others more than themselves, and how to live and forgive. She also passed this to many of her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and others.
Sally served faithfully with her church family at Deerfield Friends Church where she worked with the youth group, Sunday School, Women’s ministry, and served on several committees. Sally served as Cub Scout Den Leader and was active in the community activities and events. She participated in several softball leagues and followed her sons and grandchildren around for most of their athletic and musical events. .
There will be a visitation starting at 4:30 p.m. at Deerfield Evangelical Friends Church (1261 ST RT 14 Deerfield, OH 44411) on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, followed by a 6:00 p.m. service.
