Sam V. Cotton, age 84, of Alliance, passed away at 9:34 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2014, at his home.
He was born September 18, 1930, in Alliance, Ohio, to Joseph and Providence Cotton.
He was a graduate of Alliance High School and received training as a baker and a tool and die maker.
A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maximo and a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, Sam enjoyed gardening, baking and loved the ocean. Most of all, he was a great provider for his family.
Survivors include his sons, Mike Cotton of Deerfield, Chris Cotton of Wadsworth, Ohio and Sam (Melissa) Cotton of Mansfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Nigel and Nicole; and sister, Lena Strickler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Judy Ann (Handy) Cotton, whom he married on September 18, 1954 and who passed away on June 23, 2009; brothers, Vincent Cotton, Atsey Cotton and Joe Cotton; and sister, Josephine Russell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maximo. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2014 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alliance.
