Samuel Lee Benning, age 84, of Alliance, passed away at 9:35 p.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Woodlands at Ravenna.
He was born May 8, 1930, in Alliance, Ohio, to Samuel L. Benning Jr. and Viola (Herring) Benning.
Samuel attended Alliance Public Schools and retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a past member of the Eagles Club No. 2174 and Moose Club of Alliance. Samuel was a colonel in the Alliance Police Reserves, former volunteer fireman in Lexington Township and also volunteered at Alliance Community Hospital. He was also an avid sports fan.
He was a member of Feed My Sheep Ministries, and liked watching "COPS" on T.V.
Survivors include his children, Samuel L. (Renee) Benning III of Minerva, Richard A. (Teresa) Benning of Alliance, Glenna Benning of Alliance, Jack E. (Andrea) Benning of Ravenna and Tina (Brian) Wimer of Carrollton; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ramona Strause and Jeannie Perkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard Benning.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be used for their discretion.
