Sandy Pittenger, age 59, of Alliance, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 11, 2010 as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born June 12, 1951 in Alliance, Ohio to Duane and Esther (Aufrance) Weaver.
A graduate of Alliance High School, Sandy attended Malone College and graduated from Ohio State University.
After 29 years of service, Sandy recently retired from Mount Union College as Associate Director of Student Financial Services. Sandy also served as faculty advisor for Kappa Phi Sorority. She was also formerly involved with a Bible Study with Mount Union.
She had been actively involved with NASFAA and MASFAA conferences and activities and lifelong member of Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
Sandy was a birthright member of Alliance Evangelical Friends Church; where she served as an Elder at Large and was an avid photographer for church events. She was a founding member of its Love In Action, sang in the choir, and was the church "Cookie Monster", as she collected cookies for special events.
If you knew Sandy, you know how famous she was with her "Hug" ministry.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Pittenger of Alliance, children, Kevin (Chris) Pittenger of Ozark, Missouri, Andy Pittenger of Columbus and Becca Pittenger of Berea; parents, Duane and Esther (Aufrance) Weaver of Sebring; two sisters, Susan (Joel) Arico of Casper, Wyoming and Jayne (Gene) Stotti of Canfield; and brother, Dan (Faith) Weaver of Alliance.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday August 17, 2010 at Alliance Evangelical Friends Church with Pastor Rick Sams officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
