Sharon Lee Glass

Sharon Lee (Swimley) Glass, age 93, passed away on May 22, 2023, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.

She was born on May 15, 1930 to Josiah A. and Helena J. (Reighart) Swimley of Alliance. As a child, she lived in Detroit, Phoenix, and San Francisco, before returning to Alliance and graduating from Alliance High School in 1948. She attended Mount Union College, where she met her future husband, David Lawrence Glass, at a fraternity/sorority dance. They were married on December 16, 1950. Sharon worked in the Children’s Department at Rodman Public Library for 24 years, retiring in 1990.

She and Dave were members of Union Avenue Methodist Church. Both voracious readers, they spent much of their retirement volunteering with the Friends of the Library and auditing classes at Mount Union. They loved to travel; together they visited all 50 states and many parts of Canada. Sharon enjoyed hosting friends and family at her home, caring for her dogs, cats, watching classic movies, shopping, and collecting all kinds of interesting things- especially books.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Judi Heller; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Glass.

She is survived by her son, Eric (Lynn) Glass; daughter, Elaine (Tim) Brown; daughter, Eden Toddes; granddaughter, Kelly Brown; grandsons, Patrick Brown and Daniel (Angela) Toddes; granddaughter, Savannah (Chris) Bixler; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
