Shirley M. Reeder, age 71, of Alliance, died peacefully at her home at 7:44 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 surrounded by her family.
She was born January 2, 1938 in Alliance to Henry and Elsie (Charlton) Gabbel and was a lifetime Alliance resident.
Shirley was owner of Shirley's Crafts and Gifts and was retired from First United Presbyterian Church.
Shirley loved exploring the back roads on short trips with her husband, Russell.
She was very active with the school PTA while her children were growing up, was a Deacon and Steven Minister in the Steven Ministry and loved floral arranging. Shirley was active in the community, when there was a need-Shirley was there. She is survived by her husband Russell V. Reeder Jr. of Alliance whom she married June 23, 1956; her children, Terri (Steve) Loar and John (Pam) Reeder, both of Alliance and Pamela (Rick) Beadles of Salem; grandchildren, Daniel Beadles, Sarah Beadles, Melissa Loar, Joshua Loar, Chuck Smith, Scott Smith and Rachel Dorsey; great grandchildren, Peyton, Kaylee, Knowah, Maci, Katie, Scottie, and Carter; siblings, John Gabbel, Betty Mikes, Nancy (Bud) Gimbara, Ruth Hinerman, Rose (Dave) Emplit and Patty (Frank) Taylor, all of Alliance; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and a niece P.J. Hinerman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral home with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Ave. Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
