Sophie M. (Dowdy) Ducharme, age 92, of Alliance, a loving Mother and Grandmother, always faithful in the Lord and a friend to all, died at 12:05 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2011, at Altercare of Alliance.
She was born February 9, 1919, in Catlettsburg Kentucky, to Joe and Ada (McCana) Laney.
Sophie was a member of the Alliance Freewill Baptist Church. She was employed by the former Sugar and Spice Bakery, enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and canning her vegetables.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Graham of Alliance, Jessie Carroll of Homeworth, Mary (Chuck) Fotheringham of Salem, Dorothy Nezbeth of Beloit, Nora (Gary) Gandee, Ruby (Steve) Sears and Erie (Jim) Faulkner, all of Alliance and Alice Barker of Beloit, son, Lonnie (Terri) Dowdy of Alliance; and daughter, Bonnie (Mark) Detchon of Beloit; 29 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Merkie Crisp of Catlettsburg, Ky., Minnie Lane of Deland, Fla; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Alonzo Dowdy and Robert Ducharme; two grandsons, Orda Jr. and Howard Graham; two sisters; seven brothers; and five sons-in-law, Orda Graham Sr., Allen Carroll, Jerry Nezbeth, Mike Barker and Tim Fritz.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, co-officiated by Pastor Jimmy Holbrook and Pastor Herb Smith. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
