Stanley A. Zevada, age 85 of Alliance, and formerly of Republic, Pennsylvania, died at Alliance Community Hospital, at 9:52 p.m. March 26, 2004 after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 20, 1918 in Continental, Pa. to Michael and Caroline Zevada, and lived most of his life in Alliance.
Mr. Zevada attended Republic High School, and worked as a brakeman and conductor for Penn Central and Conrail Railroads for 35 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of United Transportation Union, and enjoyed following the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.
A U. S. Army Air Corp W.W. II veteran, Mr. Zevada served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Survivors include, his wife, Betty Jane (Evans), with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage (they were married May 15, 1947), two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Carole) Dyke of Alliance, and Shirley Ruff of Alliance, one son, Wayne Zevada, of the home, two grandsons, Joshua Ruff and James Welling Jr., two brothers, Walter Zevada and John Zevada, both of Cleveland, and two sisters, Kathryn Kroll of Akron and Helen Kroll of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joseph and two sisters, Francis Farrel and Julia Zevada.
Private services will be held Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor James White of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
